The Best Directors are all White Men, Apparently

Film Reel

The Director’s Guild of America has released its nominations for best director, and I’m sorry, but at the top of that article I thought they were showing two pictures of the same person.

The Nominations:

  • Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris
  • David Fincher for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • Michel Hazanavicious for The Artist
  • Alexander Payne for The Descendants
  • Martin Scorsese for Hugo

This list influences the best picture nominations, which influence sales and the career of a director. Seems there’s only one kind of variety in Hollywood and it’s a newspaper. I mean wow.

Oh, sigh.
